Winfried Tobias, born in 1970, graduated from the Giessen Institute for Applied Theater Studies and, after holding various positions, was most recently Deputy Director and Head of Children's and Youth Theater at the Theater der Stadt Aalen. From 2007 to 2013, Tobias worked as a dramaturge at GRIPS, where he was involved in the Berlin Children's Theater Prize and accompanied numerous world premieres and play developments. As a director, Tobias has brought over 40 performances to the stage. His time in Aalen included successes such as the Mülheim Children's Play Prize 2016 for the play “Himmel und Hände”, which he developed together with author Carsten Brandau, and the directing prize at Penguin Days 2022 in Moers for “Das Heimatkleid” by Kirsten Fuchs. Tobias was also active in cultural policy in the working group of Baden-Württemberg's children's and youth theaters and was involved in various juries nationwide, most recently in the selection for the “Augenblick Mal!” festival in 2023. Since November 2024, he has been a member of the federal board of the German Assitej e.V., the performing arts association for young audiences.
With the 2025/2026 season, Winfried Tobias will take over the artistic direction of GRIPS together with Natalie Driemeyer and Tom Keller and the management of the theater with Jutta Brinkschulte.
