Children's rights to play

For children aged 9 to 12: Children become children's rights experts and game developers. A set of methods developed by children themselves makes children's rights accessible in a playful way.

The professionally produced game is designed to enable children to explore their rights independently – without adult moderation or guidance – and become aware of their rights.

Children become children's rights ambassadors

We ask ourselves: How can children understand children's rights through theatre or dance? What does music about children's rights sound like? And what does the circus actually have to do with rights?
Art offers a great opportunity to convey complex topics such as children's rights in a playful and interactive way. The children participating in the ‘Kinderrechte to play’ project take the time and space to explore different art forms and are accompanied by professional artists in the development of methods.

This first year of research and exploration will result in a set of methods on children's rights. The children themselves develop the content, make decisions about the instructions and explain in their own way what rights they are entitled to.

In the summer of 2027, the professionally produced set of methods will be presented at a big release party and distributed free of charge. Children will teach each other what children's rights mean – without any help from adults.

In the final year of production, the children from ‘Kinderrechte to play’ will return to their schools, youth centres and family centres. Places where they can pass on the game to other children using a peer-to-peer approach.
This superpower of children – playing – gives them the opportunity to discover their rights and actively exercise them.

Duration: The project starts in February 2026 and ends in July 2028.
