Looking beyond the horizon
Beyond our premieres, we are seeking further opportunities to develop new artistic projects that engage our audience in dialogue.
In the 2025/26 season, we will be collaborating with two artists who, as ARTONAUTS / Artists in Residence, will be contributing their perspectives to the GRIPS cosmos.
Nikita Betekhtin studied at the Moscow Theater Institute GITIS and has been living in Berlin since 2022. As a director, he has developed an autobiographical monologue entitled “Self-Portrait Between Steppe and Forest” with actor Alexej Lochmann (born in Kazakhstan, raised in Hamburg) for the “Freiboxen” series at the Deutsches Theater, among other projects. Funded by the Berlin Senate's “Weltoffenes Berlin” fellowship program, we will continue to explore the principles of autobiographical narrative with him, among other things.
Sukini “Children have rights, and adults are not always right.” The lyrics of Berlin-based children's musician Sukini deal with values such as self-determination and solidarity. With her songs, she aims to encourage exchange between children and adults, thus continuing the fine tradition of GRIPS. She attaches particular importance to addressing the power relationship between adults and children (adultism). Together, we discover what children want from adults and what adults can learn from children. Director Nikita Betekthin and musician Sukini will expand our Grips universe over the course of the season.
The first insights, and perhaps even a premiere, will be presented on the last weekend in January.
