Frankie and Lars are best friends. When Lars does not turn up at school, Frankie stands on his doorstep and wants to know what is going on. But his Mum gets rid of him so strangely that he goes into the child’s bedroom through the window. There he finds Lars who has a black eye. His mother’s hand “slipped” in the heat of the moment, he says. Of course, Frankie immediately knows what to do and moves in with Lars with all his baggage. In such moments you have to stand by your best friend. And if things stay bad, they will just emigrate. To Madagascar, for example. However, the problems in Lars’ family do not go away. So the parents have to settle their differences under Frankie’s strict eyes. He is sure that Lars’ mother is sorry about the black eye and that her apology is meant honestly. Sometimes that is just not enough with regard to such a huge injustice.
At the centre of Zoran Drvenkar’s story is the friendship between two boys who use a lot of humour to encourage each other that bad things can turn out to be good if you tackle them.
